The Quantocks provide a stunning backdrop to the Hood Arms. A landscape of extraordinary natural beauty and dramatic coastal scenery. A place to return to again and again.
The buildings appearance has remained largely unchanged since 1736. One can sit and without much effort hear the sounds and feel the ambiance of the Inn from those days gone by. The place is full of history, artefacts and character.
There was an Inn at Kilve in 1689 originally called the Chough & Anchor. By 1832 it was named the Hood Arms. The pub was flourishing in 1839 with stables added for the coaching trade on the toll road. Kilve was also the centre of smuggling, with Brandy and illicit goods stored in the Chantry situated behind the Hood Arms in Sea Lane.
The immediate feeling of belonging grabs the senses as you walk through the door.
The owners John and Nicky Thompson are considered almost locals, having been in the area for fifteen years. The rest of the staff feel like family to each other and to many of our guests in whom we delight in seeing again and again.
